Mary is a partner and co-founder of the growth investment practice at Bessemer, where she primarily focuses on cloud software investments. She serves as a board member or observer for Teleport, Netlify, Hyperscience, BigID, GetInsured, and Contractbook, and she also works closely with Bessemer portfolio companies Forter, LaunchDarkly, and Zapier.
Mary is a co-author of Bessemer’s Scaling to $100 Million report, annual State of the Cloud Reports and the 10 Laws of Cloud, and she is a key architect of the BVP Nasdaq Emerging Cloud Index, which serves as the benchmark for public cloud companies. She also developed Bessemer’s Cash Conversion Score and authors the annual Cloud 100 Benchmarks Reports. Mary was named to the 2021 Forbes 30 Under 30 List in Venture Capital.
Prior to Bessemer, Mary worked in Equity Capital Markets at Morgan Stanley and held roles at Apple and at the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Mary graduated with honors with an A.B. in Politics from Princeton University and holds an MBA from the Yale School of Management, where she now sits on the Board of the International Center for Finance. In her free time, Mary enjoys cheering for the 49ers, listening to country music, and spending time with her husband, Kyle.
Tomasz Tunguz is a venture capitalist. He's worked with startups including Looker, Kustomer, Monte Carlo, Dremio, Hex, & Spot.ai. He writes a blog at tomtunguz.com.
Tomasz served as a Managing Director and venture capitalist at Redpoint Ventures. Prior to joining Redpoint, Tomasz was the product manager for Google's social media monetization team, including the Google-MySpace partnership. In addition, he managed the launches of AdSense into six new markets in Europe and Asia. Before Google, Tomasz developed systems for the Department of Homeland Security at Appian Corporation. Tomasz also co-founded Perquimans Systems, a provider of bilingual, tri-currency automated time billing and document management systems for top-tier law firms in Chile.
Jason Gardner is the founder, chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of Marqeta, Inc. Under his leadership, Marqeta’s mission is to become the global standard for modern card issuing, empowering some of the world’s most innovative companies to bring game-changing payment card products into the world. In 2020, Jason was named an E&Y Entrepreneur Of The Year and one of the Most Admired CEOs by the San Francisco Business Times. Marqeta has been named one of Forbes’ Fintech 50 and on CNBC’s Disruptor 50 list.
Marqeta is Jason’s third company. He co-founded PropertyBridge, which became the leading rent and lease-related payment and transaction integration platform for multifamily real estate. PropertyBridge was acquired by MoneyGram International (MGI) in 2007. Before PropertyBridge, he founded Vertical Think, an IT management company that worked with start-ups and larger organizations.
Based in SVB's Santa Monica office, Managing Director Alejandro (Al) Guerrero works with portfolio companies and their management teams to help them build their vision for the future and succeed. Al’s experience in business creation, business and corporate development and investing, when combined with his proven ability and passion for increasing profits helps him work with early-stage tech startups throughout Los Angeles’ thriving ecosystem. He’s especially looking forward to leveraging more than a decade of experience in the Media & Entertainment vertical to help move forward some of LA’s most innovative companies.
