Kelly Belcher is a managing director for SVB and leads the Energy Resource Innovation (ERI) teams in Texas, Boston and New York, where he’s responsible for cultivating relationships with investors and management teams and for setting strategic vision for SVB’s Energy Practice vertical. He is passionate about clean energy technologies, climate tech, food and agriculture and traditional energy technologies — all working together to make energy production, distribution and consumption more equitable and environmentally conscious for the global populace.
Prior to joining SVB, Kelly worked in financial operations and asset management for a private equity-backed exploration and production company. This included directing commercial activity, a role in which he witnessed the day-to-day operations of drilling and producing crude oil and natural gas. Through this experience, he gained knowledge and respect for protecting the environment and its finite natural resources. He launched his career as a financial analyst for Northwestern Mutual and later worked for Merrill Lynch.
Kelly holds a BBA in finance and economics, an MS in financial planning and an MBA in business administration from Texas Tech University.
I am interested in the intersection of finance and social impact. At SVB, I partner with disruptive technology companies in the cleantech sector and help them scale by advising on banking/treasury management needs, capital structures and strategic growth opportunities. I develop and manage relationships with pre-revenue through $1Bn+ revenue companies throughout the country. I structure tailored financing solutions (e.g. venture, mezzanine, asset-based and project finance debt) to help companies grow and ultimately deploy affordable, clean energy around the world.
