Charles Birnbaum is a partner in Bessemer’s New York office, where he invests in early stage and promising financial services, consumer, and education companies in the U.S. and Europe. He has a strong interest in fintech infrastructure, embedded financial services, and the entrepreneurs that are solving the hardest problems facing both consumers and businesses in our current financial system.
Before joining Bessemer in 2013, Charles was one of the earliest team members at Foursquare, the location-based mobile application and social network, where he helped to bring forth the company’s first merchant-facing tools. During the company’s growth phase, Charles became the director of mobile and international business development and built strategic partnerships with media companies, carriers, and OEMs in key growth markets.
Prior to Foursquare, Charles spent six years in investment banking and equity capital markets focusing on the technology, media, and telecom sectors.
He earned his MBA from the Wharton School, Master of Arts in international studies from the Lauder Institute at the University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor of Arts in history from Northwestern University
Adam Nelson is a Managing Director at FirstMark Capital focusing on investments in Fintech and Vertical Software.
Prior to joining the firm, Adam spent nearly a decade in Silicon Valley, investing in early stage companies as a Venture Partner at South Park Commons and a Partner at Social Capital.
Before Venture Capital, Adam was an early employee at Dropbox where he built and scaled Dropbox's Partner Network and Revenue Partnerships teams.
Adam started his career in investment banking and private equity at Merrill Lynch and Lindsay Goldberg.
He holds both a B.A. from Brown University and an M.B.A. from Stanford's Graduate School of Business.
Sallie Krawcheck is the CEO and founder of Ellevest, an investing and wealth management company built by women for women.
In a sea of financial services sameness, Ellevest stands apart with its mission to get more money in the hands of women.
Prior to Ellevest, Krawcheck was one of the only financial executives of her generation to have held C-suite roles at the largest global banks — as CEO of Merrill Lynch, Smith Barney, US Trust, and Sanford Bernstein and as CFO of Citi.
Today, as a venture-funded entrepreneur, she’s beat impossibly long odds to raise $144 million in venture-capital funding (women CEOs raise $1 out of every $10,000 Series B fintech dollars).
Fortune Magazine has called Krawcheck “The Last Honest Analyst,” Barron’s considers her one of the “Most Influential Women in US Finance,” and Vanity Fair has named her to their “New Establishment List.”
